Our winemaker, Terry Luce, grew up around the exploding bottles of a beer maker father. A life of yeasty, malty smells permeating the house fill his memories of childhood, but fresh fruit was always his first love. How to capture that goodness and save it for the cold, rainy days of winters in the Seattle area became a passion.
So it's no surprise fruit wine and varietal wines with fruit forward profiles fill our cellars options. Terry shunned the fruit wines available as either too sweet and syrupy or the falsely named "fruit wine" of flavored chardonnay or riesling. Beginning in the late 70's, he began to perfect the concept of true fruit flavor in his wines. The process has developed a profile of outstanding awarding winning wines with unique flavors and true to the fruit goodness. He does still makes some awesome stout, but only for the family now.
